Dim Sum Brunch

Had an excellent dim sum brunch today, so I just had to blog about it and let everyone know. The restaurant is Xin Cuisine (新故乡酒楼) located on the 4th Floor of the Holiday Inn Atrium hotel in Outram Road.

Ambience is quite condusive for a quiet lunch or dinner. The food, though, is good and the presentation quite unique. I thoroughly enjoyed the meal. We had dim sum. They have an additional special menu for dim sum on Sundays. And if you come early, settle the bill before 12noon, you get a 25% discount which made it quite cheap. 4 of us spent less than S$100 for brunch.

We ordered quite a few dishes, most of them with fancy names. I would like to give special mention to a few which are quite rarely found in restaurants here. The 贵妃金枕头 is a seafood roll wrap in beancurd skin with a dash of durian. The durian is not too overpowering and the combination of taste is quite pleasurable.

Then there is the 三杯鸡肉饺 which is chicken dumplings soaked in rice wine, another is the Hot Stone Gou Bu Li which are panfried meat buns served on a hot stone plate.

Then there was the 小笼包 Xiao Long Bao, which was served individually in a light broth. Something quite different from the way other restaurants do.

The dishes are all reasonably priced and there are almost 50 to 60 dim sum dishes listed in the menu. I would have loved to try them all, but we will keep some for the next visit. We also saw people at another table having the Peking Duck and other dishes.

What surprised me was that it was not crowded, even though the food was good. And we didn't get thirsty after the meal, which shows that they don't use too much MSG in the preparation of the food. The food was served hot, some time after your order, which goes to show that they are only cooked when ordered and not mass produced like some other dim sum restaurants.

Definitely worth another few visits.
