Haw Par Villa

When I was a little boy, my parents used to bring my brother and me to Haw Par Villa. That was in the 1960s. I loved the place then. Always got so excited running around and looking at the scary exhibits there. Then we stopped going there, I do not remember the reasons why, perhaps because they started charging an entrance fee, or perhaps we outgrew the place. But I did not visit Haw Par Villa again until very recently. And what a pleasant surprised I had when I did.

Haw Par Villa is still such an interesting place. It brought back many childhood memories for me. The main entrance, the colourful statues depicting Chinese mythology, the pagodas etc.

And my favourite exhibits are still there. Enter at your own peril. The gates of hell - where you see the various magistrate courts mete out punishments for your sins.

If you have never been to Haw Par Villa, it is definitely worth a visit. And for those of you who had been there when you were younger, do re-visit to refresh your memories. I am so glad I brought my son there.
